Does the weather influence your mood?

¿El clima influye en el estado de ánimo?

Nowadays, it is well known that cold weather slows down metabolism and lowers mood; On the contrary, the mood in summer improves and causes euphoria, especially if you are near a pool or the sea.

However, if we are in the heat, without water nearby, serious psychophysical changes occur due to dehydration and low blood pressure, making us more likely to become agitated and sensitive.

Sadness can be induced by rainy days. Extreme cold initially causes people to be hyperactive (in an effort to warm themselves), but if it lasts and there are no means to warm themselves, it makes them drowsy and irritable.

However, the largest study to date was conducted by German researchers and published in the journal "Emotion" in 2008. In this study, daily questionnaires were given to more than 1,200 adult participants with the aim of establishing relationships between six meteorological parameters. different and the mood of the subjects.

The results showed that while drops in temperature, rain, or decreased sunlight did not significantly affect people who were already in a good mood, they did have an impact on those who were already feeling depressed.

Why does the cold favor mood swings?

Especially because less sunlight reaches us, this is the main cause of the mood change we experience. In other words, the sun is still there, but we only see a dimmer version of it. Or perhaps on many days we experience a shutdown. Now, thinking that our mood is duller than usual is not so unusual.

The same three-part approach applies in other countries where the sun never rises or the sky is constantly cloudy.

In addition to brightening our days, sunlight helps our body to correctly absorb nutrients, as it promotes the release of neurotransmitters that are essential for the proper functioning of the body. The release of serotonin is one of the body processes that are triggered by direct rays of the sun.

La inflamación es una parte natural y necesaria del proceso de curación del cuerpo. Cuando nos lesionamos o sufrimos una infección, el sistema inmunológico desencadena una respuesta inflamatoria para reparar el daño y combatir los patógenos invasores.
